Avatron Air Display driver issue under Mac OSX: Lion.

As mentioned at the bottom of the Avatron site

The Air Display host software runs well on Lion, but has this limitation: the built-in video driver on certain 2008 and 2009 Macs is incompatible with third-party video drivers. You can still install the Air Display host software, but until Apple fixes the issue, the Air Display drivers will disable themselves on Lion on these specific machines.
Affected machines include:
  • 13" MacBook (aluminum late 2008, early, mid, and late 2009)
  • 13" MacBook Air (late 2008, mid 2009)
  • 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2009)
  • 15" MacBook Pro (late 2008, 2.53 GHz mid 2009, mid 2009)
  • 17" MacBook Pro (early and mid 2009).
  • 20" iMac (early or mid 2009)
  • 24" iMac (early 2009)
  • 21.5" iMac (late 2009)
  • Mac mini (early or late 2009, Server late 2009)
  • Mac mini Mac OS X Server (late 2009)
Apple is aware of the bug. We are hopeful that they will release a fix soon.

Secure those iPad (iPhone, iTouch) Files:

With most new/cool/electronic devices, people like to gain hands-on experience ...for good or bad.

Locking the iPad (or iPhone, iTouch) with a passcode is a good first step, but what if someone wants to try the device out?

Using an app like “Goodreader” allows you to password protect your sensitive documents (Text, Photo, PDF, etc…) from prying eyes.

[hacked] iPhone/iTouch memory allocation chart

{Unhacked devices can use the built-in setting.}

Many people don't realize Cydia has a built-in memory allocation pie chart.

(Cydia and Installer are the two programs installed on the devices when hacked by ZiPhone.)

Run Cydia, touch 'Manage', touch 'Storage'.

Also see the previous posts regarding BossTool and SBsettings.

Another good 3rd party app for iPhone/iTouch utilities:

SBSettings a BigBoss app* which allows quick access to:

-WiFi and Data IP addresses.
-Used/free space for the device's memory (sometimes referred to, incorrectly, as HDD space).
-Quick Respring and Power off.
-Quick toggling for various options such as WiFi, SSH, and BlueTooth -among others.
-Quick access to any programs (up to 12) you can add to the the pop-up 'Dock' (within the app).

Wiping your finger across the top of the screen accesses the drop down menu:

Touching the 'Dock' button reveals the application icons previously selected through the 'More' option:

Good Stuff.

*BigBoss, a brilliant programmer(s) whose apps are installed through Cydia or Installer (iPhone School links) via ZiPhone, which installs them both quickly, and easily.

iPhone Stack.app / Entended Preferences.app options not showing in Settings

Symptom 1: Installing the 3rd party app 'Stack' places the floating icon in the center of the dock, and there is no way to adjust this.

Symptom 2: Installing the 3rd party app 'Extended Preferences' doesn't appear to work.

[Uninstalling / reinstalling has no effect.]

The applications install their preferences into the native 'Settings' program.
However, the settings for Stack or Extended Preferences are not shown.

Culprit: 'Stack' and 'Extended Preferences' conflict with each other.

Fix: [From reader Dominick, Thanks!], turn off Extended Preferences in winterboard (if installed).

Fix: Uninstalling Extended Preferences or Stack until a patch is issued.
-Reinstalling Extended Preferences with Stack installed will prevent the extend prefs from appearing.
-Reinstalling Stack with Extended Preferences installed will prevent the exstended options (settings) appearing.
-At this point, it's one or the other.

Some screen shots showing Stack after uninstalling Extended Preferences

Note: you must place an icon behind the stack to space your five icon dock correctly.
A blank icon (using iBlank works best.)

iPhone App Store; 'Unable to Download Application' Error:

[Occurs when trying to update an existing application]

If you receive this error, try deleting the original...
(Pay attention to page/placement, as you may need to move it to its original location manually.)

First, clear the dialog box, click 'Done', then press and hold your finger on the icon until it starts to "jiggle", press the little 'X' in the upper left corner of the app to delete it.*

Tap the icon again to install it.

Press and hold your finger until it starts to "jiggle", then hold down the center of the icon and drag it to the right edge to move it to another page.

*Apps from Apple's App Store only.
(Cydia and Installer apps, delete through those programs -where it was downloaded from.)

Favored iPhone / iTouch apps:

Here are some favored apps as they are reported to or by us, (many require additional 'sources' to be added the the Installer program.)

(Please Note: 'BSD Subsystem' (UNIX code - available through the Installer**) is required by most third party apps.)
[ZiPhone 3.0 now installs the subsystem code by default.]

This is informational, install these programs through the Installer.app.  (You may need to add more sources to see these appear.)

Utilities:
BossPrefs - Fix Dir permissions, toggle SSH / Edge / WiFi / Bluetooth / Phone / Airplane / AFP modes on and off. (configurable.)
Also fixes DIR permissions, uses a 'dock' to conceal (or group) other apps, shows avail 'disk' space, and allows running from the home button.

BossTool - Move fonts, ringtones, third party apps to larger memory partition, it can also 'wipe' your device, if desired.  (Screenshots here.)

Categories - Group icons into folders. (Available through the "Community Sources" that come with Installer)  (Screenshots here.)

Customize 2.0 - Manage and backup themes, change sounds, and system text strings.  (Screenshots / walkthrough)
Note: Customize dropped the option to add extra icons to the dock.  (Apple changed the file structure on 1.1.3 and above.)

Extended Preferences - Added additional preferences.  (Screen dimming, percentages for battery....)
[Temporarily unavailable, too many found the app unstable.]

Gutenberg - Required for eBooks provided by Project Gutenberg.  (Manual install file is here.)

Insomnia - keeps the device connected during 'sleep' to continue downloads, or whatever. (toggles on/off)

Kate - Subscription program - 5 icon dock for 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, dial using the letters on the numeric keypad, add a custom 3 band equalizer, (more....)

KillBoard - Force reset the 'Spring/Summerboard'. (GUI***)

RepoName - A case-sensitive search engine for installer.          <---------
Displays the repo name any app.  Can eMail iSpazio to request inclusions, also!

Respring - Force reset the 'Spring/Summerboard'. (GUI***)  (Screenshots here.)

Snapture - Advanced camera options for iPhone.  (Available through the "Community Sources" that come with Installer)  (Screenshots here.)
A camera replacement.  You can digitally zoom, shoot multiple shots quickly, auto rotate, use quiet mode, use an on-screen leveler, set a timer, and shoot black/white, or sepia (old fashioned brown/white shots).  donation-ware.

Volume Boost - iPhone patch. (specific to yourfirmware version, add  installer.iclarified.com  as a source.)
Increases iPhone maximum volume approx 25%.

XLaunch - Alphabetical list of all applications, easy selection.

Bejeweled - Port of a popular game.  (http://static.popcap.com/iphone)
Frotz - Z-machine game engine port (uses Z-code files).  (Interactive Fiction Guide.)
